The Hurricane to Hot Springs section of Big Laurel Creek is 7 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The Great Smoky Mountains scenery is wonderful. The campgrounds here at Big Laurel Creek are pretty good. This section
is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem
and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are no other sections to paddle along Big Laurel Creek than the Hurricane to Hot Springs section. The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.
Briefly about the general area: The Little Paint Creek Trail offers hiking at its best, and a splendid place to visit is Tanyard Gap. All through the months of summer, highs
mostly are in the 80's at Big Laurel Creek, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Big Laurel Creek temperatures dip to the 20's. Big Laurel Creek gets a good deal
of water; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and the driest month is October. Whohoo, so many exciting things in one place! The Great Smoky Mountains rules! Big Laurel Creek is right by the Paint Creek Trail.
