This section of Big Laurel Creek in North Carolina is 7 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Greeneville, as you can see on the road map further down. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will
have you coming back for more. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Big Laurel Creek have people
coming here. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains and you get great scenery. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Hurricane to Hot Springs section is the only paddling section along Big Laurel Creek. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that.
Briefly about the general area: Be careful coming to the Great Smoky Mountains, you might not ever wanna go back home again. The Little Paint Creek Trail offers hiking at its best. The high level of rainfall
makes Big Laurel Creek a relatively wet location; most of the rain falls through July, and October on the other hand is the driest. Throughout the months of summer at Big Laurel Creek temperatures are ordinarily in the 80's with night lows in the 60's. High temperatures all
through the wintertime are normally in the 40's, and night lows at Big Laurel Creek during the winter ordinarily descend into the 20's. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Paint Creek Trail, and Big Laurel Creek is near Tanyard Gap which is without doubt worth a visit.
