Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The put-in is not too far from Boone, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section of Boone Fork in Watauga County is 4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV(V+) section. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. Lodging is available near the river, but if you don’t
have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is the only paddling section along Boone Fork. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The wonderful
Watauga County scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Boone Fork mostly tend to be in the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's while Boone Fork nighttime low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 10's. Boone Fork sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is December. Young Hollow is a brilliant location to pop by nearby, and the wonderful people of Boone like to hang out nearby.
