  The put-in location is a short drive from Sanford, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of Buckhorn Creek is 3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I(II) section. The natural beauty of North Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers
    here are not as hard as elsewhere. This stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great
campgrounds nearby. The Highway 42 to Buckhorn Dam Road stretch is the only paddling stretch along Buckhorn Creek. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.

Briefly about the general area:
All the water falling down from the sky makes Buckhorn Creek a wet location; the wettest month of the year is mostly May, that's the one that rains the most while September is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Summer at Buckhorn Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's
 
while nighttime lows are mostly in the 60's. During the wintertime highs are usually in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Buckhorn Creek.
