The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Sanford, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Buckhorn Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Highway 42 to Buckhorn Dam Road stretch is the only one. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Highway 42 to Buckhorn Dam Road stretch     of Buckhorn Creek is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I(II) section of whitewater. This is a short paddling stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Buckhorn Creek a wet site; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain, and the driest of the months is September. High temperatures at   Buckhorn Creek all through the days of summer are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 60's. All through the wintertime highs are mostly in the 40's, and night lows during the wintertime for Buckhorn Creek tend to be in the 20's. There are good sites to look at along the Lanier Falls Trail.
