The Avents Ferry to Erwin section of Cape Fear in North Carolina is 24 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Cape Fear have people coming here. The put-in location is a short drive from Dunn, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the
page. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. There are no other sections to paddle along Cape Fear than the Avents Ferry to Erwin section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that
around here. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The campgrounds here at Cape Fear are pretty good. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Cape Fear is a reasonably wet place generally with lots of precipitation; May is the wettest month with most rain; the driest of the months is September. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Cape Fear. When the night sets in temperatures fall down
into the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's; overnight lows through the winter for Cape Fear tend to be in the 20's. There is a good hiking trail in close proximity to Cape Fear called the Little Creek Loop Trail, and lots of folks from Dunn come here. The Group Camp Trail is a good hiking trail close to Cape Fear.
