The put-in is not too far from Dunn, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Chatham/Harnett/Cumberland County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Cape Fear is 24 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. The campgrounds here at Cape Fear are pretty good. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a
room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. The Avents Ferry to Erwin section is the only paddling section along Cape Fear. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking
in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: Good hiking is available along the Little Creek Loop Trail, and there are plenty of people from Dunn here at Cape Fear. Cape Fear usually gets a great deal of rainfall; through the month of May you get the most rain around here while September is generally the driest month. Don't leave Cape Fear without first going for a hike along the Group Camp Trail. Throughout
the summertime months, highs regularly are in the 80's at Cape Fear while nighttime lows are mostly in the 60's. Highs throughout the winter are mostly in the 40's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Cape Fear plunge into the 20's.
