If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The scenic beauty of McDowell/Burke County and the water flowing gracefully down Catawba River beats anything. If you're coming from Forest City it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. scenery is an added bonus. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Catawba River mostly gets a lot of rainfall; through March this
area sees the most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest. During the summer months, highs mostly are in the 80's at Catawba River while overnight lows are ordinarily in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's, and overnight lows at Catawba River all through the winter commonly sink into the 20's.
