This stretch of Catawba River - North Fork in North Carolina is 5.6 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the playfulness of the water beats anything. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. A good workout and just
hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. The starting point is not too far from Forest City, as you can see on the road map further down. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking
river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The Route 1559 to Route 1552 Bridge stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
