This section of Catawba River - North Fork in North Carolina is 5.6 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Forest City, as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful scenery of McDowell County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors
are great reasons to come. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for
a one day trip. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Route 1559 to Route 1552 Bridge stretch is just one of them. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in North Carolina are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
