The wonderful Gaston County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This section is very short so better bring some good walking shoes. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Lincolnton, as you can see on the road map further down. near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. This is one of a small number of paddling sections
| in this river system, there are a few others too. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came.
Briefly about the general area:
The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Catawba River - South Fork, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 50's while Catawba River - South Fork night low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Catawba River - South Fork a wet place; through March this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is April.
