Says Becca If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. This stretch of Cheoah River is 7.1 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. If you're a camper     you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains is a great plus for this river. The beautiful scenery of Graham County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. There are no other sections to paddle along Cheoah River than the Grocery Store to Calderwood Lake Boat Launch section. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. Briefly about the general area: A great spot to stop by near Cheoah River is Sam Cove. Cheoah River sees pretty   high levels of rain; March is the wettest month with most rain, and October is the month with the least moisture. High temperatures at Cheoah River during the warm days of summer are in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. For the duration of the winter the highs are mostly in the 40's; overnight lows in the 20's for Cheoah River.
