The Off Highway 28 Into Overflow Creek section of Clear Creek in North Carolina is 2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III+(V+) section. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have
reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. There's camping available near Clear Creek. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. The starting
point is not too far from Seneca, as you can see on the road map further down. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are no other stretches to paddle along Clear Creek than the Off Highway 28 Into Overflow Creek stretch. The beautiful scenery of Macon/Rabun County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle.
Briefly about the general area: Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Blue Ridge Mountains. Go for a hike on the Three Forks Trail. A great
site close to Clear Creek is Wheel Branch Gap; don't leave Clear Creek without first going for a hike along the Burrells Ford Trail. Clear Creek is a quite wet place mostly with a good deal of precipitation; during March this area sees the most rain; July on the other hand
is the driest. Through the summertime months at Clear Creek temperatures are generally in the 80's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's; nighttime lows at Clear Creek through the wintertime ordinarily drop into the 20's.
