If you're coming from Newport it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of Haywood County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This is a short paddling stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors
have people coming from far and near. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This stretch of Cold Springs Creek in Haywood County is 2.5 miles long and has been rated as a class IV
section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are no other sections to paddle along Cold Springs Creek than the to Harmen Den section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy.
