The to Harmen Den section of Cold Springs Creek in Haywood County is 2.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV section of whitewater. If you're coming from Newport it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. The nearby hotels
are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a short paddling stretch so no need to bring snacks. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The to Harmen Den section is the only paddling section
along Cold Springs Creek. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come.
