The put-in location is a short drive from Brevard, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of Transylvania County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. This section of Courthouse Creek in North Carolina is 3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V+ section. This is the only paddling section along Courthouse Creek. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. The rivers for whitewater rafting and
kayaking here in North Carolina are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is a pretty short section so you'll
have to walk back to the start over and over. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Courthouse Creek a wet spot;
the month with most of the rain is March, and October is when it's the driest. All the outdoors fun things in the Blue Ridge Mountains will keep you coming back over and over. There's fine hiking along the Art Loeb Trail. Summertime highs at Courthouse Creek usually tend to
be in the 80's while night lows are frequently in the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Courthouse Creek are in the 20's. A short trip to Courthouse Falls is always worthwhile; Summey Cove is close at hand, and is a great site.
