The run from Cooks Sawmill(one bridge down from Peeks Creek Bridge is a great canoe run which will take you to the Little Tennessee River at the Franklin Greenway. The run is about 8 miles and has several mild rapid runs and great scenic views. Take a cooler and enjoy the day. Be sure there has been enough rain prior to your trip to ensure a smooth run. The Lake Sequoyah to below Cosmic Crunch stretch of Cullasaja River in North Carolina is 4.75 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V+ section. If you're
coming from Seneca it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are many good hotels to choose from, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Lake Sequoyah to below Cosmic Crunch stretch is just one of them. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Cullasaja River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots
of good rivers for that around here. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside North Carolina you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this
river.

if you're here at Cullasaja River. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Cullasaja River, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. Highs through the wintertime are usually in the 40's with temperatures at Cullasaja River dipping down into the
20's through winter nights. Cullasaja River usually gets much precipitation; during March this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is October.
