This section of Cullasaja River in Macon County is 2.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV(V+) section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. No need to look hard for hotels, but do book a room before you come because
it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is a somewhat short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. The
put-in location is a short drive from Seneca, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The Below Cosmic Crunch to Above Cullasaja Falls section is one of many paddling sections in this river system.
Briefly about the general area: Cullasaja River is a wet spot that gets a good deal of rain; March is the wettest month with most rain; July is when it's the driest. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy
the Blue Ridge Mountains. Don't leave Cullasaja River without first paying a visit to Bridal Veil Falls. Buckhorn Gap is a good site to spend some time at; the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Dry Falls. Summertime highs at Cullasaja River usually tend to be in the
80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's, and overnight lows at Cullasaja River throughout the wintertime mostly dip into the 20's.
