Below Cosmic Crunch to Above Cullasaja Falls section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV(V+) 2.5 miles
The starting location is a reasonable drive from Seneca, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Below Cosmic Crunch to Above Cullasaja Falls stretch of Cullasaja River is 2.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV(V+) section. The
river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. A good workout
and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
Briefly about the general area: Dry Falls is a great local attraction, and a great site
to pop by is Buckhorn Gap. Cullasaja River gets a large amount of water; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain, and the driest month of the year is July. That right there is a load of entertaining stuff already but it goes on, the Blue Ridge Mountains
has it all. Bridal Veil Falls is always fun to check out. Throughout the warm months here at Cullasaja River, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 80's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are frequently in the 40's; after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Cullasaja River dip into the 20's.
