The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. If you're coming from Seneca it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. This stretch of Cullasaja River is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as
a class II(III) section. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Peeks Creek Road to Peaceful Cove Road section is just one
of them. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The wonderful Macon County scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rainfall makes Cullasaja River a reasonably wet location; throughout March this area sees
the most rain; the driest month is October. If you have a thing about the outdoors you'll have a thing about it here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. For the period of the summertime at Cullasaja River highs are mostly in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down
into the 60's. All through the wintertime the highs are typically in the 40's while Cullasaja River nighttime low temperatures all through the winter are in the 20's. Cullasaja River is close to California Gap which is absolutely worth checking out, and a short spree to Cullasaja Falls is always worthwhile.
