Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. This section of Dan River in Stokes County is 15.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Dan River attract people from near and far. The starting point is not too far from Winston-Salem, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. |

And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room
| before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The Route 1432 to Route 89 stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system.

is rather chillier of course, usually in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Dan River.
Dan River gets much water; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and January is the month with the least moisture.
