Route 89 to Route 1652 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-III 10.4 miles
The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The Route 89 to Route 1652 section of Dan River is 10.4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. The nature scenery of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well.
Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these
hotels fill up quick. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Winston-Salem, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The campgrounds here at Dan River are pretty good. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places.
