This section of Dan River in Rockingham County is 11.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. There are many good hotels to choose from, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A     good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Danville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other rivers. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Briefly about the general area: During the warm days of summer at Dan River temperatures are commonly in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and overnight   lows at Dan River during the winter typically descend into the 20's.
