CLASS III+(IV) 3.5 miles
This stretch of Davidson River is 3.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III+(IV) section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. If you're coming from Brevard it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations
you might end up sleeping in your car. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The wonderful Transylvania County scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from
near and far. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of precipitation makes Davidson River a quite wet location; March is when you get the most rain here, and October is when it's
the driest. This place, the Blue Ridge Mountains, has so much outdoors fun stuff. Slick Rock Falls is an inspiring site to pop by while you're here, and there is a perfect hiking trail close by called the Black Mountain Trail. If you yearn for a little side visit, try Fate
Osteen Cove, and on a tremendous day you can take a hike along the Art Loeb Trail. Summer at Davidson River comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows drop down to the 50's. For the duration of the winter the highs are generally in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Davidson River are in the 20's. This river is so perfect.
