The beautiful scenery of Transylvania County and the cool fresh water beats anything. The starting location is a short drive from Brevard, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The sections
for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in North Carolina are often more forgiving than in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This is a pretty short section so no need to bring snacks. No matter if you're whitewater rafting
or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This section of Davidson River is 3.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III+(IV) section by American Whitewater. The Forest Service Road 475-A to Looking Glass Creek section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: Davidson River gets lots of water; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain, and October is the month with the least moisture. Throughout
the summertime, highs frequently are in the 80's at Davidson River with nighttime lows in the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are frequently in the 40's while Davidson River overnight low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 20's. Be careful coming to the Blue
Ridge Mountains, you might not ever want to return back home again. Slick Rock Falls is a magnificent local attraction, and don't leave Davidson River without first going for a hike along the Black Mountain Trail. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. A delightful location to stop by in the vicinity of Davidson River is Fate Osteen Cove, and you can go for a hike on the Art Loeb Trail.
