The FS Road 475 to Sycamore Flats stretch of Davidson River in North Carolina is 5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater paddling
here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Brevard, as you can see on the road map further
down. The scenic beauty of Transylvania County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.
Briefly about the general area: There's nice hiking along the Black Mountain Trail, and Neil Gap is in the vicinity, and is a perfect location. Davidson River is a rather wet place ordinarily with
lots of rain; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain while October is generally the driest month. That right there is plenty of enjoyable things already but it goes on, the Blue Ridge Mountains has it all. Looking Glass Falls is a pretty place to visit while
you're at Davidson River. The warmest time of the year at Davidson River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Davidson River.
