If you're coming from Sanford it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of North Carolina and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Some people prefer whitewater     rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: Deep River gets much water; the month with most of the rain is May, and September is when it's the driest. During the warm months at Deep River highs are regularly in the 80's   with night lows in the 60's. For the period of the winter the highs are regularly in the 40's, and night lows at Deep River throughout the winter regularly descend into the 20's.
