Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The beautiful scenery of Avery (NC)/Carter (TN) County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. Briefly about the general area: Throughout the summer months highs here at Elk River get into the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. During the winter highs are in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Elk River.
The amount of rainfall that falls at Elk River is close to the national average; most of the rain falls through July while October is regularly the driest month. Nearby Cannon Gap is a splendid spot to go if you're at Elk River, and hey, Gotta ski right? Ski Beech is a perfect site to do that.
