Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. There's camping available near Fires Creek. The wonderful Clay County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Fires Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle. are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. The beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains is a great plus for this river. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back
for more. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Mule Flats to Arch Bridge section is one of them.
Briefly about the general area: A perfect place to visit right next door to Fires Creek is Squirrel Spring Gap, and Mule Flats Bend is something you shouldn't miss if you're here. A good deal of rain falls at Fires Creek; the month with most of the rain is March, and the driest month is October.
