The natural beauty of North Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. This
is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier
than in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere.
Briefly about the general area: A great site close to Fires Creek is Squirrel Spring Gap, and a cool spot to go to is Mule Flats Bend. Fires Creek gets a good deal of water; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain; the driest month of the year is October. High temperatures at Fires Creek during the summertime months are in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. Through the winter highs are ordinarily in
the 40's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Fires Creek fall into the 20's. There's no way someone can get bored here in the Great Smoky Mountains.
