The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. There's camping available near Fires Creek. The wonderful Clay County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Fires Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Mule Flats to Arch Bridge section is one of them. Briefly about the general area: A perfect place to visit right next door to Fires Creek is Squirrel Spring Gap, and Mule Flats Bend is something you shouldn't miss if you're here. A good deal of rain falls at Fires Creek; the month with most of the rain is March, and the driest month is October. You'll in fact wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the cool things in the Great Smoky Mountains. High temperatures at Fires   Creek through the months of summer are in the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's, and overnight lows throughout the wintertime for Fires Creek tend to be in the 20's.
