North Carolina whitewater - First Broad, Blue Ridge Mountains, Cleveland/ Rutherford County Cleveland/ Rutherford county, Route 1726 Bridge to Route 1529 Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-III     15 miles   If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This stretch of First Broad in Cleveland/ Rutherford County is 15 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Forest City it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is the only paddling section along     First Broad. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. The beautiful scenery of Cleveland/ Rutherford County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. Briefly about the general area: First Broad is a reasonably wet place frequently with a good deal of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is mostly May,   that's the one that rains the most, and January meanwhile is the driest month. All through the days of summer, highs regularly are in the 80's at First Broad while overnight lows are regularly in the 60's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's; overnight lows in the 20's for First Broad.
