The scenic beauty of Surry County and the water flowing gracefully down Fisher River will make you feel great. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Mount Airy, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of Fisher River is 20 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Fisher River doesn't have
a lot of paddling sections, the US Route 601 Bridge to Rockford section is the only one. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. A good workout and spending some quality time in
nature are great attractions for lots of people. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners.
