Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The natural beauty of Person/Durham County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing     to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Route 161 to Lake Michie section is one of them. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Durham, as you can see on the road map further down. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Briefly about the general area: The trees of North Carolina State University Forest are a pleasant source of shade on hot summer days. At Flat River through the warm months highs are in the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's. Through the winter this place   gets highs in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Flat River. Flat River is a wet place that gets a great deal of precipitation; July is the month that gets the most rain, and April is the month with the least moisture.
