The starting point is not too far from Durham, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The scenic beauty of Person/Durham County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make
    reservations in advance you're all set. The US Route 501 to Route 1614 stretch of Flat River in Person/Durham County is 10 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter,
this area has a large number of paddling places. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The US Route 501 to Route 1614 stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system.

while night lows are commonly in the 60's. Highs during the wintertime are regularly in the 40's, and nighttime lows at Flat River all through the winter frequently dip into the 20's.
