The North Carolina Route 251 to Route 1634 stretch of French Broad River is 6.5 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you're coming from Asheville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds
nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The scenic beauty of Transylvania/ Henderson/ Buncombe/ Madison County and the water flowing gracefully down French Broad River are reasons enough
to come here and paddle. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners.

a glorious time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Summertime highs at French Broad River typically tend to be in the 80's. All through the moonlight hours it's usually in the 60's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's with temperatures at French Broad River dipping down into the 20's through winter nights.
