The North Carolina Route 251 to Route 1634 section of French Broad River is 6.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. The natural beauty of North Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. The average North Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. This stretch has has enough mileage,
good for a one day paddling trip. The put-in location is a short drive from Asheville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There are nice comfortable hotels
here, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. There's camping available near French Broad River. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: French Broad River frequently gets a large amount of precipitation; through the month of July you get
the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is October. A short spree to Reems Creek Falls is always worthwhile, and if you haven’t been to Blue Ridge Parkway, you should schedule some time for it while you're here. Through the summer at French Broad River temperatures
are typically in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 60's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at French Broad River. This site, the Blue Ridge Mountains, has so much outdoors exciting stuff.
