The put-in location is a short drive from Asheville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch of French Broad River in North Carolina is 6.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting some good
exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. There are some good hotels near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are a
few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. The nature scenery of Transylvania/ Henderson/ Buncombe/ Madison County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip.
Briefly about the general area: During the months of summer here at French Broad River, high temperatures typically
reach the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's while the cold winter nights at French Broad River are in the 20's. Put some time aside to spend at Reems Creek Falls since you're here at French Broad River, and a trip to Blue Ridge Parkway
is worthwhile. So much cool stuff in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just tremendous. French Broad River gets lots of water; most of the rain falls throughout July; the driest month of the year is October.
