The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Greeneville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside North Carolina you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. This section of French Broad River in North Carolina is 8.1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you
don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. This river system is full of great
paddling stretches, the Barnard to Hot Springs stretch is just one of them. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the playfulness of the water beats anything. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more.
