The nature scenery of Transylvania/ Henderson/ Buncombe/ Madison County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might     end up sleeping in your car. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch of French Broad River in North Carolina is 8.1 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains and you get great scenery. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Briefly about the general area: A good deal of rain falls at   French Broad River; the wettest month of the year is commonly July, that's the one that rains the most while October is frequently the driest month. Near French Broad River you find delightful places like Windy Gap, and there are great spots to discover along the Little Paint Creek Trail.
