The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Gragg Prong River attract people from near and far. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The Roseboro to Lost Cove Creek section of Gragg Prong River in Avery County is 1.6 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people
coming here. The starting point is not too far from Boone, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river.
This is the only paddling section along Gragg Prong River. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
