The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Forest City, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful scenery of Polk County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The campgrounds here at Green River are pretty good. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. 9 below Lake Adger Dam to North Carolina Route 1005 section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill
up quick. This section of Green River in Polk County is 17.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come.

Green River gets a good deal of water; March is the month that gets the most rain; the driest month of the year is January. Summertime highs at Green River regularly tend to be in the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 60's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 40's with temperatures at Green River dipping down into the 20's during winter nights.
