Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. This stretch of Green River in Polk County is 17.2 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Forest City, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack
your sleeping bag. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great
scenery along the way too. The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
Briefly about the general area: Summer at Green River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into
the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's while Green River overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's. A good deal of precipitation falls at Green River; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest.
