If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. If you're coming from Asheville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of Green River is 1.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-V section. This is an extremely short section so no need to bring snacks. Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. The natural beauty of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. Lodging is available near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. And of
| course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near.
Briefly about the general area:
Through the warmest time of the year at Green River highs are usually in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's. Daytime highs through the wintertime | |

are in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Green River are in the 20's. Green River is a relatively wet place regularly with a good deal of rainfall; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month is April.
