The nature scenery of Henderson County and the water flowing gracefully down Green River beats anything. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in North Carolina are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. The Tuxedo Powerplant to above Hungry Creek stretch of Green River in North Carolina is 3.7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III+ section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either
way this area has a large number of paddling spots. There's camping available near Green River. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. If you're coming from Asheville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're
not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. There are many good hotels to choose from, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Green River a relatively wet place;
August is the wettest month with most rain, and April on the other hand is the driest. High temperatures at Green River during the summertime months are in the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and night lows during the wintertime for Green River tend to be in the 20's. A tour to The Narrows is always fun.
