  The starting point is not too far from Durham, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section of Haw River in North Carolina is 4 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short
    distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. There are campgrounds quite near
the river where you can camp. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. The natural beauty of Chatham County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too.

Briefly about the general area:
For the duration of the summer highs here at Haw River reach the 80's while nighttime lows are usually in the 60's. Throughout the wintertime highs are generally in the 40's,
 
and night lows through the winter for Haw River tend to be in the 20's.
Haw River is a wet place that gets a large amount of precipitation; May is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is September.
