The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Hiawassee River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Hayesville to US Route 64 section of Hiawassee River in North Carolina is 18.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. If you have the time you can make this a two day
trip, so pack your camp stove. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always
get great scenery along the way too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Hiawassee River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Hayesville to US Route 64 section is the only one.
