The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Hiawassee River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina are easier than the national norm, so better not forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. Hiawassee River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Hayesville to US Route 64 stretch is the only one. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead
and pack your sleeping bag. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This section of Hiawassee River in Clay/Cherokee County
is 18.3 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here.
