The wild scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains is great. This section of Hiawassee River is 18.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations     in advance you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The Hayesville to US Route 64 stretch is the only paddling stretch along Hiawassee River. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camp stove. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more.
