The natural beauty of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The Big Hungry Road to Green River stretch of Hungry River in Henderson County is 1.3 miles long and is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Asheville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful.
You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Hungry River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Big Hungry Road to Green River stretch is the only one. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around
here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This stretch is very short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near.
Briefly about the general area: The Narrows is a delightful place to go to next to Hungry River. The high level of precipitation makes Hungry
River a quite wet place; most of the rain falls all through March while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Summertime at Hungry River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's; during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. For the duration of the wintertime the highs are regularly in the 40's while Hungry River nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 20's.
