The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Newport, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Haywood County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Hurricane Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the SR 1336 to Pigeon River stretch is the only one. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. If you've been
whitewater rafting and kayaking outside North Carolina you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon.
Briefly about the general area: So much amusing stuff in the Great Smoky Mountains, just astonishing. While staying at Hurricane Creek you could always explore Rathbone Cove, and the Asbury Trail offers hiking at its best. During the long summer days highs here at Hurricane Creek reach the 80's.
For the period of the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 60's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 40's; overnight lows throughout the wintertime for Hurricane Creek tend to be in the 20's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Hurricane Creek a wet location; the month with most of the rain is May while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
