Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. This stretch of Linville River in Burke County is 16.4 miles long and is a class IV-V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful Burke County scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. This is the only paddling stretch along Linville River. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are nice comfortable hotels here, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. The river winds through the Blue
Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. If you're coming from Boone it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Linville River a pretty wet place; March is when you get the most rain here; the driest month of the year is December. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Linville River. When the night sets in temperatures
descend down into the 50's. For the period of the wintertime the highs are frequently in the 40's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Linville River.
