Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. If you're coming from Durham it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. I-IV section of whitewater. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Johnson U. to US Route 501 stretch is one of them. And of course, there are campgrounds
nearby. The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch.
Briefly about the general area: Little River commonly gets lots of precipitation; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and April on the other hand is the
driest. For the duration of the warm days of summer at Little River highs are ordinarily in the 80's. Summer overnight lows drop down to the 60's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 40's while Little River nighttime low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's.
