The Along Highway 278 stretch of Looking Glass Creek in North Carolina is 5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV(V+) section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The starting location is a short drive from Brevard, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are no other stretches to paddle along Looking
Glass Creek than the Along Highway 278 stretch. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from
the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great.
Briefly about the general area: Looking Glass Creek is a rather wet place frequently with a lot of precipitation;
the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain while October is generally the driest month. Looking Glass Creek is right by the Buck Spring Trail, and do put some time aside to spend at Slick Rock Falls if you're here at Looking Glass Creek. This is such a wonderful
river. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Black Mountain Trail. The warmest time of the year at Looking Glass Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's; the night is a bit cooler of course, frequently in the 50's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's
while Looking Glass Creek overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's. Now, you may assume that's a lot but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Near Looking Glass Creek you come across fine places like Bennett Gap; a journey to Looking Glass Falls will fill your soul with wonderful feelings.
