This section of Nantahala River in Macon County is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II(III) section. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are
great attractions for lots of people. The nature scenery of North Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Nantahala River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Kimsey Creek to US 64 stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. The
wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: There are great places to look at along the Rufus Morgan Trail, and nearby you discover Sugar Cove which is a wonderful site to stop at. The high level of rainfall makes Nantahala River a pretty wet location; March is the month that gets the most rain, and October is the month with the least
moisture. And if that's not enough there's lots more entertaining stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Don't leave Nantahala River without first going for a hike along the Hurricane Creek Trail. Summertime highs at Nantahala River commonly tend to be in the 80's. When the
night sets in temperatures dip down into the 60's. During the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and all through the dark hours in the winter at Nantahala River temperatures fall to the 20's.
