This stretch of Nantahala River in North Carolina is 4 miles long and is a class II(III) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The wonderful Macon County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The nearby
hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Whether you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The Kimsey Creek to US 64 stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Nantahala River usually tend to be in the 80's. Summer overnight lows fall down to the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Nantahala River. And if that's not sufficient there's a lot more exciting stuff to do in the Blue
Ridge Mountains. While you're here at Nantahala River you can take a hike along the Rufus Morgan Trail. Nantahala River sees pretty high levels of precipitation; March is the wettest month with most rain, and October on the other hand is the driest. If the weather is good here at Nantahala River, you can go for a hike along the Hurricane Creek Trail, and nearby you hit upon perfect places like Sugar Cove.
