The wonderful Macon County scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. This section of Nantahala River is 0.7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains
and you get great scenery. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. There are plenty of other stretches in this river
system that can be paddled as well. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This is a very short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the summer months highs here at Nantahala River get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 60's. Highs through the winter are usually in the 40's, and overnight lows all through the winter for Nantahala
River tend to be in the 20's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Nantahala River a wet spot; the wettest month of the year is mostly July, that's the one that rains the most while October is typically the driest month. If you want to have a look at some attention-grabbing
stuff, have a look at Winding Stairs It's always splendid to check out Queens Falls. Now, you may assume that's a load but there's even more entertaining things to do here in the Great Smoky Mountains. Turkey Pen Cove is a great site to stop by nearby.
