The Route 1310 Bridge to Highway 19 stretch of Nantahala River in North Carolina is 3.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Route 1310 Bridge to Highway 19 stretch is just one of them. The Great Smoky Mountains scenery is wonderful. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just
hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to
stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The beautiful scenery of Macon/Swain County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Nantahala River through the days of summer are in the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's; winter nights
come with lows in the 20's to Nantahala River. Whohoo, so much enjoyable stuff in one place! The Great Smoky Mountains is so good! If you fancy a little side visit, try Turkey Pen Cove. Put some time aside to spend at Queens Falls while you're here at Nantahala River; you
need to stop by Winding Stairs since you're here. Nantahala River sees pretty high levels of precipitation; July is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month of the year is October.
