The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Nantahala River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section of Nantahala River in Macon/Swain County is 3.2 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains is a great plus for this river. Getting some good exercise
and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because
these hotels fill up quick. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks.
Briefly about the general area: Nantahala River typically gets a great deal of rainfall; July is when you get the most rain here while October is the month with the least amount of precipitation. chillier of course, ordinarily in the 60's. All through the winter highs are in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Nantahala River.
