North Carolina whitewater - New Hope Creek, Orange County Orange county, Turkey Farm Road to Erwin Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     5 miles   The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Durham, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. New Hope Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Turkey Farm Road to Erwin Road section is the only one. Great     exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There are many good hotels to choose from, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. Briefly about the general area: Throughout the warmest time of the year at New Hope Creek temperatures are commonly in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at New Hope Creek temperatures sink to the 20's. During your visit to New Hope Creek you'll meet some folks from Durham   for sure. New Hope Creek is a wet place that gets much rainfall; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is April.
