North Carolina whitewater - Noland Creek, Great Smoky Mountains, Swain County
Swain
county,
Lakeview Road to Fontana Lake section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
The natural beauty of Swain County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. This is an extremely short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The Lakeview Road to Fontana Lake stretch is the only paddling stretch along Noland Creek. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina
is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The put-in is not too far from Sevierville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds
nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: Poplar Cove is a delightful site to spend some time at; why not take a refreshing hike along the Tsali Horse Trail. Noland Creek sees pretty high levels of precipitation; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain while October is
the month with the least amount of precipitation. At Noland Creek all through the long summer days highs are in the 80's. Through the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's. Highs all through the wintertime are ordinarily in the 40's; nighttime lows in the 20's for Noland Creek. But wait, there's more cool things to do in the Great Smoky Mountains.
