North Carolina whitewater - Noland Creek, Great Smoky Mountains, Swain County Swain county, Lakeview Road to Fontana Lake section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.     The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Sevierville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The nature scenery of Swain County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking     outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. There are no other stretches to paddle along Noland Creek than the Lakeview Road to Fontana Lake stretch. This is a very short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There's camping available near Noland Creek. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: Noland Creek is a wet spot that gets much precipitation; during the month of March you get the most rain around here while October is the month with the least amount   of precipitation. A tour to Poplar Cove is always fun, and there's great hiking along the Tsali Horse Trail. Summer at Noland Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's, and the night is a bit chillier of course, typically in the 60's. High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Noland Creek are in the 20's. Be careful coming to the Great Smoky Mountains, you might not ever want to go back home again.
