The nature scenery of Avery/Caldwell County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of North Harper Creek in North Carolina is 9 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V(V+) section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Boone, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers
in this state are less demanding. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Wilson Creek Tributary section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This section
is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.

most rain, and December is when it's the driest. During the warmest time of the year at North Harper Creek temperatures are generally in the 70's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 50's. Highs throughout the winter are typically in the 40's while the
cold winter nights at North Harper Creek are in the 10's. There is a glorious hiking trail in the vicinity of North Harper Creek called the Yancey Ridge Trail.
