This section of North Pacolet River in Henderson/Polk County is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Henderson/Polk County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at
a nearby campground. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. There are so many sections to paddle
in this river system, the Pearsons Falls along Highway 176 to Tryon section is just one of many. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside North Carolina you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding.
Briefly about the general area: Don't leave North Pacolet River without first checking out Cedar Cliff. All the water falling down from the sky makes North Pacolet River a wet spot; August is the month that gets the most rain while April is generally
the driest month. At North Pacolet River during the warm months highs are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 40's while the cold winter nights at North Pacolet River are in the 20's.
