  This stretch of Norton Creek in North Carolina is 2.5 miles long and is a class IV-V(V+) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. The put-in location is a short drive from Brevard, please print out
    a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is the only paddling stretch along Norton Creek. This is a short paddling stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. Whether you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far.

Going for a hike along the Shortoff Mountain Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Whiteside Mountain National Recreation Trail. All through the summertime at Norton Creek temperatures are regularly in the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Norton Creek dipping down into the 20's during winter nights.
