If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The put-in location is a short drive from Asheville, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Pigeon River in North Carolina is 26.7 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The beauty of the Great Smoky
Mountains is a great plus for this river. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The campgrounds here at Pigeon River are pretty good. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good
rivers. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came.
Briefly about the general area: While staying at Pigeon River you could always discover Terrell Cove. During the summertime months at Pigeon River temperatures are typically in the 80's, and the overnight is rather colder of course, frequently in the 60's. Daytime highs during the
winter are in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 20's for Pigeon River. Pigeon River is a rather wet place generally with a large amount of rainfall; through the month of July you get the most rain around here, and October meanwhile is the driest month.
