The put-in is not too far from Asheville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. Lodging is
    available near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are
great attractions for lots of people. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The Confluence of East-West Fork to New Hepco Bidge stretch of Pigeon River is 26.7 miles long and it is classified as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. All through the summer, highs typically are
 
in the 80's at Pigeon River, and throughout the night it cools down to the 60's. Through the winter highs are frequently in the 40's, and nighttime lows at Pigeon River during the wintertime ordinarily descend into the 20's. Since you're here at Pigeon River why not pop by Terrell Cove.
Pigeon River usually gets a lot of rain; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and October is when it's the driest.
