The Blue Ridge Parkway to Highway 276 stretch of Pigeon River - Big East Fork in -blank- County is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V+ section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is not
the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. There's camping available near Pigeon River - Big East Fork. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The scenic beauty of -blank-
County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina are easier than the national norm, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Pigeon River - Big East Fork mostly tend to be in the 80's. Once the sun
is down it falls down to the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's while the cold winter nights at Pigeon River - Big East Fork are in the 20's. This river is always fun. Yellowstone Falls is always fun to check out, and there's perfect hiking along the Art Loeb Trail.
There's no way anyone can get bored here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. A short trip to Second Falls is always worthwhile, and close by Big Buckeye Cove is a perfect spot to go. Pigeon River - Big East Fork is a wet place that gets a good deal of precipitation; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain; the driest of the months is October.
