The 3800 foot countour line to US Route 276 Bridge section of Pigeon River - Big East Fork is 2.7 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The average North Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding.
There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. This stretch is short so no need to bring snacks.
There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The wonderful Haywood County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places.
